Simon Rimmer: ‘It’s really hard!’ Sunday Brunch host speaks out on feeling ‘cheated’ on

Simon Rimmer, 55, appeared on Strictly Come Dancing in 2017 partnered up with Karen Clifton, 36.

The pair were eliminated in the sixth week of the competition, which saw Joe McFadden and Katya Jones crowned champion.

Talking exclusively to Express.co.uk about the BBC One series, The Sunday Brunch presenter admitted he “loved” being a part of the show, adding: “It’s genuinely one of the best things I’ve ever done in my life.”

But Simon admitted it’s “hard” being a past contestant on the show as he feels as if he’s being “cheated on” when his professional partner got a new celebrity.

“The really hard thing is all the pro dancers were amazing, and when you start and everyone’s together, but then you see them dancing with someone else and you feel like they’re cheating on you!

“The first time I saw Karen having little private jokes with Charles [Venn] this year, I’m thinking, how dare you?”

He joked: ”I thought I was special. It’s just a holiday romance you don’t care, you’re just happily in the arms of someone else.”

But there isn’t bad blood between him and Karen as the chef revealed they’re still in touch.

“I’m still friends with Karen, I speak to her on a really regular basis,” he spilled.

Divulging more about his former co-stars, Simon said: “I’m great friends with Gemma [Atkinson] , and Mollie [King] as well.

He continued: “You become a member of one of the loveliest private members club, and when you meet people from other years, they have that same thing, it’s almost like being a mason.”

Simon explained: “Secret handshakes, kinda know what someone’s been through doing the Strictly thing.

“Extremely positive, there isn’t a negative element at all when you come out of Strictly. Can’t speak for everybody but certainly for our year. It was lovely. And terrifying.”

The presenter is currently teaming up with Compare the Market to help launch their Sunday Switch campaign this Sunday, which will run for eight weeks to try and get consumers to make the “most of their Sunday morning downtime”, and show them how easy it is to switch energy suppliers.

Sharing why he was drawn to the campaign, Simon revealed: “We’ve been with our energy supplier for years, and I never do anything about changing it. So what I did with the campaign, I just read through it now and it took me two minutes and 48 seconds to complete it.

“Which incidentally is less than the commercial break in Sunday Brunch, so it means on a Sunday you don’t even have to miss any Sunday Brunch which obviously, is massively important to me so we don’t lose viewers.

“And then it showed up, saying I could save estimating £349 a year, which is a lot. You know, on a Sunday, we all have a bit of free time, and do very little with it.”

The star added: “So it’s quite an effective thing to do, without actually having to be particularly tricky.”

Simon Rimmer has teamed up with comparethemarket.com to launch #SundaySwitch, helping the nation make the most of their Sunday downtime and cut the costs of their energy bills.
